Student preparing for board exams

Are you preparing for the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Class 12 Science stream for the 2026-27 session? To score 400+ marks and become a district or state topper, reading blindly won't help. You need a targeted approach.

The Bihar Board has a highly scoring pattern with 50% objective questions. In this ultimate guide, we have provided an in-depth, chapter-wise marks distribution for the top 6 subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Hindi, and English) along with the exact exam pattern and common mistakes to avoid.

1. BSEB Class 12 Exam Pattern (2026-27)

The Bihar Board follows a student-friendly "50-50 Format". Half of your theory paper will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), and the other half will be Subjective (Short and Long answers).

  • For Subjects with Practicals (Physics, Chemistry, Biology): Total Theory is 70 Marks. You will be given 70 MCQs, out of which you only need to attempt 35 MCQs (1 mark each). Subjective is 35 marks.
  • For Subjects without Practicals (Maths, English, Hindi): Total Theory is 100 Marks. You will be given 100 MCQs, out of which you need to attempt 50 MCQs (1 mark each). Subjective is 50 marks.

2. Complete Chapter-Wise Marks Distribution (PCMB, Hindi & English)

3. Top Preparation Strategy for 2026-27

  • NCERT is the Bible: Do not run behind heavy reference books. 80-90% of the questions are directly picked from NCERT exercises and examples.
  • Master the OMR Game: Since 50% of your marks depend on MCQs, buy an OMR practice booklet. Practice filling the bubbles fast and accurately. Guesswork can lead to negative consequences in confidence.
  • Solve PYQs (Previous Year Questions): Bihar Board has a strong tendency to repeat questions from the last 5-7 years. Memorize the question bank thoroughly.

5 Common Mistakes to Avoid in BSEB!

1. Ignoring Hindi & English: These two subjects carry 200 marks. Scoring 90+ in languages drastically pushes your overall percentage to the top.

2. Messing up the OMR Sheet: Attempting 36 questions instead of 35, or filling the wrong bubble under pressure. Practice is key.

3. Memorizing without Understanding: Rote learning won't help in Physics numericals or Calculus. Understand the concepts.

4. Poor Time Management: Spending too much time on a 2-mark question and leaving the 5-mark long answers blank. Stick to the word limit.

5. Skipping Diagrams: In Biology and Physics, neat and well-labeled diagrams can fetch you full marks even if your text explanation is average.
